Why Bother Voting in a Primary Election?

Why Bother Voting in a Primary Election?

By Neal C. White

Tuesday, July 18, 2006 Georgia held Primary Elections. 78 percent of Georgia registered voters did not go to the polls. Almost the same percentage of citizens living in IRAQ braved being killed by terrorists to vote in their election in January. This is a disgraceful performance for Americans to care so little about the freedoms they enjoy, the economic opulence available for most, and their opportunity to choose their own destiny – but they will not vote?

Some excuse not going to the polls to vote in the Primary Election saying they are waiting for the General Election.

Folks, the Primary Election is the most important time to vote in the election process. It is the time you and I can select the very best candidate to represent us in the General Election. It is the time you can challenge an incumbent who has not been voting important issues the way you wish – even if you voted for him in the last election you should now challenge him.

You and I must have the courage to challenge our elected officials when we do not like what they are doing to our country. More importantly we must be acutely aware of the issues of the day and how our representatives have voted. Where else in the world can you find better rights available to anyone? And we are willing to give those rights up because we do not vote?

Some excuse not going to the polls to vote in the Primary Election saying they do not know who to vote for.

It is every citizen’s responsibility to seek the information needed to make an informed voting decision. Check candidates web sites for their positions on issues and stated purpose of seeking the office. Call incumbents and challenge them about the votes you dislike. Call challengers to determine their vision for the future. Seek an answer in writing as to their position now and in the future in return for your vote. Attend Town Hall meetings and face your Representative with your questions. They will respond if asked. Folks it is your life! Your rights! Your money! Your country! Your Freedoms!

Start now gathering the information you need for all offices that will be on the ballot. This especially means State Senators and Representatives, Statewide offices such as Governor, Lt Governor, and Secretary of State, County Commissioners, Judges (most difficult to evaluate), down to the lowest office on the ballot.

It is from these less known offices of Government that future Candidates may be on your ballot for higher office. If they do not have good character, exhibit a clear understanding of the issues of their prospective office, and cannot describe those issues with clarity do not vote for them. Shine the spotlight of truth with your vote.

It is only a few short months until the General Election in November. Now is the time to be gathering the necessary information you will need to cast an informed vote.

Are you concerned about the possibility of Terrorists attacking American interests? Here in America? -- Then get involved in the political process and quit whining!

Do you realize the depth of damage being done by out of control Illegal Immigration? Right in your own town or city? -- Then get involved in the political process and quit whining!

Do you really want to see real tax reform so America will maintain a reasonable competitiveness for American in the Global Market? Or do you prefer losing our manufacturing jobs to China, India, and other Nations? -- Then get involved in the political process and quit whining!

Do you want Congress to continue the out of control spending which is damaging the economy for our children, our grandchildren and ourselves? Do you want future generations to be saddled with deleterious debt because of our spending habits? Then get involved in the political process and quit whining!

Do you wish for our Social Security System to be bankrupt and fail to deliver promised benefits to retirees in the next few years? Then get involved in the political process and quit whining!

Should America commit to a safe, healthy, prosperous, and free nation? Should our children and grandchildren deserve the opportunities our parents and grandparents gave us?

Only a citizens’ grassroots movement can insist on the level of change needed to keep America from becoming a greatly reduced world economic force. Such a grassroots movement must be focused on our national goals rather than interests groups. Get involved now in the political process before it is too late and quit whining
